Cabo San Lucas welcomes surfers from all over the world with both winter and summer wave action. Although the area around Cabo is less popular than the northern coast of Baja, Cabo offers both good known surfing spots and many so called “secret” spots known only to locals. However, seasoned surfers will intuitively find “the spots”.

The summer brings good swells from a southern direction and the spot to be is along the "corridor", a 15-20 mile stretch between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo, on the Sea of Cortez. Winter swells are generally from the northwest along the Pacific coast. The water temperature is between 21 C. (70 F.) and 29 C. (85 F.) year round and the sun is always hot.

The late summer to early fall, during the “chubasco” or storm season offers perhaps the best wave action.. One popular spot, known as “Zippers”, is located between Km. 28-29 on Mexican 1 on Playa Costa Azul. Other Cabo area surfing spots include:

Punta Palmilla: between Km. 28-27 near the Hotel Palmilla
Playa Acapulquito: on the Bay of San Jose Del Cabo
Playa Buenos Aires: Km. 22
Playa Cabo Real: Km. 20
Playa Cantamar: Km. 16
Punta Chileno: Km. 14
Playa Cabo Bello: between Km. 6-5

For most surfing in the Cabo area short boards are sufficient. Surfing supplies and equipment may be found in small surf shops in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. This surfing guide is offered as general information for Cabo surf. Please send us any surfing information, photos or stories you feel of value to other surfers and we will post it in this section.
